According to the Drudge Report, Google is working with federal officials to track the flu. They have developed a good track record for working with governments. In China, they are the only search engine. They work hand in hand with the government to suppress subversive thought. Kind of frightening. According to a cursory search on another engine, Google has been accused of being in bed with the CIA.
The way their flu system would work is that they monitor how many people search flu as a key term by location. They pass that information onto the federal authorities who can use it to allocate resources. Sound harmless? Perhaps on the surface, but it doesn’t take long to come to the conclusion that they can use the same technology to pass all kinds of information onto federal authorities.
If you don’t think this kind of intrusion is a bad thing, you are probably wasting valuable oxygen. I will not be using Google as my default browser. I am not a terrorist, but that is not the point. I don’t want my information passed on to the federal government. Who knows, maybe I will do too many searches of The Catcher in the Rye and get a visit from the feds.
